Facial Thirds Calculator

Facial thirds divide the face into three horizontal sections. Equal thirds are a classic proportion reference — and the useful part is knowing how to balance yours with hair and grooming.

Your lower third is the longest — often read as strong and masculine. A shorter, tidy beard or stubble can balance it if you want. Reference: 33% each.

How to measure

  1. Upper third: hairline to the point between your eyebrows.
  2. Middle third: between the eyebrows to the base of the nose.
  3. Lower third: base of the nose to the bottom of the chin.
  4. Measure from a straight-on photo or with a ruler in the mirror. Equal thirds are a reference, not a rule — very few faces are perfectly even.

Questions

The classic reference is three roughly equal sections. Real faces vary, and small differences are normal and rarely noticeable.
Bone proportions are fixed, but hairstyle changes how the upper third reads and a beard changes how the lower third reads.
No. A strong lower third often reads as masculine. Grooming can balance it if you want.
